Green Knowe Series

Todays Blog is a little different than I have done so far. I will inform you of a series of Childrens Books. A series of British books written by a mother, herself. The series is called Green Knowe.

There are 6 books and 1 short story in all.
-1st book, "The Children of Green Knowe."
-2nd book, "Treasure of Green Knowe."
-3rd book, "The River at Green Knowe."
-4th book, "A Stranger at Green Knowe."
-5th book, "An Enemy at Green Knowe."
-6th book, "The Stone of Green Knowe."
The short story is called, "Demon at Green Knowe."

Lucy M. Boston, or better known as L.M. Boston, wrote the Green Knowe series from 1954 to 1976. Her son, Peter Boston illstrated the books for his mother, making it a project just for them.

Some of the stories features are Toseland, Tolly for short and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Oldknow. Green knowe also features a very old house, based on the family's home at the time. (The Manor in Hemingford, Cambridge.) Green Knowe is haunted by the spirits of children who lived there in the "ages past." Other supernatural charaters of the books features a large tree, Green Noah, which stands on the grounds of Green Knowe. Green Noah is a demonic tree-spirit and manifests the trees grounds and an animated statue of St. Christopher.

The first 5 books were published by Faber & Faber in the years between 1954 to 1964.

L.M. Boston wrote the short story in 1964, the only short story of the series.

Harcourt published both the series and the short story in the United States. The first book in 1955. The others were within the year of the "British publication."

The last book appeared after more than a decade. It was then published by The Bodle Head & Atheneum Books in 1976.

WorldCat reports that the 6 Green Knowe novels "are Boston's works most widely held by participating libraries, by a wild margin."

Boston went on to win the annual "Carnegie Medal" for book 4. She was the runner up for this medal for books 1 and 2.

Love!!!

I just finished reading Summer Breeze by Catherine Anderson. This is just one of several books I have read of hers. After I put the book on my shielf, it hit me what that book was all about. Love. I knew along that the 2 characters would end up together, its a book of course. But it was the Love the 2 people shared that made the book. Chatherine catches Love and writes it in such a way that no other author has done. Or maybe its because she's a woman and views it differently than a man, such as Nicholas Sparks. Now do not get me wrong, I like Nicholas Sparks as well. I have read many of his books. But he doesn't catch Love and write it like Catherine Anderson.
In Summer Breeze, Rachel's family is murdered and she lives in terror the man that killed her family will come back for her. She boarded up her house, inside and out. She lived for 5 years in her kitchen. Only one day, her foreman is shot in the back and has to stay in bed for weeks. Her foreman sends a trusted man, Joseph to look after Rachel. Long story short, joseph shows Rachel that she doesn't have to be scared of the outside world and scared to love someone. The story ended with the 2 married and have children.
The point I am making here, is simply ... Love! Joseph loved Rachel no matter of what she was scared of and the two found the greatest gift. To Love and be Loved.
As human beings we all need Love and we all need to be Loved! Love! We all need to be Loved by the ones we Love.
So Love with your hearts open and Love even on cloudy or rainy days. You never know who is looking up to you. Love in the good times and in the bad times. But remember, sometimes Love is simply walking away from those who don't Love you.

Blue Ridge Parkway

Thanks to my brother, George, I am able to do this blog about Blue Ridge Parkway. Thanks, Bud!

Blue Ridge Parkway started in 1935. It was originally called the Appalachian Scenic Highway.
It stretches over 469 miles. Starting in Asheville, NC and ending in Roanoke, VA. The scenic views of the route, allowing you to catch the beautiful landscape, took over 52 years to complete.
This highway is sure to please the eye of onlookers as they travel with "an outstanding 17.8 million visitors a year."

What's Important

Sometimes what's important is worth more than your pride. In fact, what's important is worth more than anything. Some things are just not worth it to other people. Things that become so important it causes you to lose loved ones, its not so imporrtant.
Example:
A couple of months ago, myself and a friend quit talking because of something so stupid that now we don't talk at all. I let my pride get in the way of what was most important, my friendship. A friendship that had made it through everything. A friendship that I counted on day to day and sometimes moment to moment. Since then, I have done a lot of self-discovery and thinking. I fiinally decided that now it was important to me to "rekindle" that friendship and make it more stronger than it ever was. Thanks to other friends that know both of us, I'm on the right track. Hopefully, this friendship will still be worth it in the end.
In closing, I want everyone to stop and think about where your pride leads you because pride, itself, will make you do things you never thought you would. Fight for what's worth fighting for. Don't be scard to stand alone. Truth is, right now, in some ways, even I'm standing alone. Don't be scared to make things right. You never know!

Pray For The Philippines

I wanted to take a few moments and pray for the Philippines.
The islands were hit last month with a 7.1 magnitude earthquake and are still recovering.
Today, however, they were hit with a Super Typhoon. Damage is suppose to be astronomical.
The Philippines and the people need our support and prayers!!!
Lord, be with them all!!!

God is Good!!

I want to thank God first and more most for my life. I never knew how precious life was. That was until tonight.
I survived something tonight that should have, in so many ways, killed me. Me and mama were in the kitchen and the gas stove blew up right in front of us. A fire ball flew between us, going what seemed like a million miles an hour and never hit either one of us. It happened so fast, that pieces are still coming to me. Thank God, only a few things broke and we have our life. It blew pictures off the wall, shielfs off the wall, blew light bulbs, broke a Scentsy, messed up Georges door and a few glass things here and there. But whats important, me and mama are okay. George was in the shower but was out in no time.
That stove blowing up should have killed me and mama, both. But it didn't. Our time is not up yet. God is not done with us.
In closing, My Blog Friends and Family, count your blessings because you never know just how close to death you are until its too late. Be thankful for what you have and the people you get to love. In the end, that's what matters.

Missing Woman

Brandi Baggett is a sister of a friend of a friend. She is missing. She needs our help. Please keep this young woman in your prayers and remember her face. She belongs with her family, not her kidnapper!

Pitt County lawmen are searching for a man in connection with the disappearance of a woman this morning.

Sheriff Neil Elks says Brandi Baggett is missing and they are concerned for her safety.

Elks says the 22-year-old from Pactolus was last seen around 7:30 a.m., about the same time some of her neighbors on Cattail Court heard a disturbance at the home she shares with her boyfriend.

Paul Ireland is considered an abduction suspect. He was arrested last week for misdemeanor assault on a female and communicating threats. The sheriff says Baggett was the victim in both of those cases.

Elks says Ireland, who is 27, may be driving a faded burgundy single cab truck with North Carolina tag HD-97878. Earlier, the sheriff said Ireland may be in a Ford F-150 truck, but that is no longer the case.

If anyone sees Ireland or Baggett they should call 911.
